What is a geodesic dome?
The geodesic dome is a spherical structure made of interconnected triangles. The structure was popularised by architect R. Buckminster Fuller during the mid-20th century, the design was part of his pursuit for efficient and sustainable building solutions, characterised by minimal use of materials, lightness, and strength.
The geometric design allows for large spans without internal supports, making it versatile for a range of structures. Today, geodesic domes continue to represent innovation and sustainability, inspiring resilient and unique architectural designs. The geometric principles of geodesic domes allows stress to be distributed evenly through all the interconnected triangles making it a highly resistant structure that is used for emergency structures after natural disasters and in harsh environmental conditions such as blizzards and hurricanes.
